Na Teen

1. Location

Baan Na Teen is situated in Muang District of Krabi Province in the South of Thailand. It was once the cultivation area for residents of surrounding districts, which walked to the area everyday to plant rice. The community was set up about 80 years ago when it got its name “Ban Na Teen”, which means “The rice field of the south”. The Na Teen Community is one of the 23 communities which are part of the Krabi Network.

“Krabi is already a developed tourism destination, but backstage you can still discover local traditions and livelihood in the Na Teen Community. Observe local handcraft made from coconut shells.”

Na Teen community is set in the beautiful district of Krabi province. Located on the sea, the small village offers a lot of different possibilities to enjoy nature in its full glory. The landscape is rich of various species of animals, living in and beside the sea.

Activities for guests

  • Relax and explore

For a relaxing activity, you can join the local guide to the breathtaking islands of Krabi where you will have time to go snorkeling, swimming and to relax on the beach. Also visitors can have a picnic lunch at the beach prepared by the local tour guide.

  • Hands on

For the creative ones it is possible to participate on a short coconut handcraft workshop. In Krabi and around Krabi province there are many coconut trees, local inhabitants have obtained the skills to use the coconut shells for handcrafts. Experience the process of cutting the coconuts of the trees and making it into a handcraft.

If you spend more time in Krabi, you can follow a workshop of 2 days to gain real handcraft skills and to create your own beautiful crafts.

5. Green corner: People and Planet

To organize the touristic development of the 23 areas of Krabi network, as Na Teen community, the CBT group has develop a rating system which categorizes the villages in A, B and C to measure their current development. Those districts that are well developed (=A) can organize their selves and ask for support from the CBT group in cases of insecurity about further steps. B communities are still guided and supported by the CBT group to fix standards and ensure sustainable resource management. C districts just started to promote and participate in community based tourism and are therefore the main task for local meetings. Community members develop and implement first hospitality basics and start to promote their area as a place to visit for tourists.
